PJ McCartan has served as an Officer in the Irish Defence Forces for 28 years. In 1977 he was commissioned as a riding Officer in the world famous Irish Army Equitation School, Dublin. He has also served as Administration Officer and Second in Command in this school of equestrian excellence. PJ has gained extensive experience in all aspects of horse management, training and husbandry under the tutelage of some of the most respected names in Irish and international equestrian circles, namely, Colonel William Ringrose, Colonel Ned Campion, Lt Col Ronnie MacMahon and most recently, Lt Col Gerry Mullins. Serving as a peacekeeper with the United Nations, PJ has served three tours of duty in Lebanon and also spent 12 months in Sarajevo on secondment to OSCE. PJ is a graduate of the Command and Staff College and is a holder of a MA (Hons) in Leadership, Management and Defence Studies from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
